Reporting Conference "Heritage Monitoring for Restoration"

On April 27, a team of Heritage Emergency Response Initiative experts from the presented the results of documenting the damage to cultural monuments as a result of the war. During October 2022 - April 2023, HERI experts conducted dozens of expeditions in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. Data collected in expeditions according to international methods became the basis of a unified information system of heritage monitoring. The project team included about 30 experts from various fields - art critics, museum experts, architects, restorers, experts from databases and geo-information systems, fixers, photographers, logisticians, UAV operators and other specialists.
The conference was attended by more than 80 actors in the field of cultural heritage from cultural management bodies (Ministry of Culture, specialized departments and local administrations), monument protection initiatives, educational and scientific institutions, professional communities, museums and nature reserves, international organizations.
During the conference, the results of the expeditions to document the losses carried out within the framework of the projects were presented:
"Assessment of losses of cultural heritage objects of Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions" with the support of the World Monuments Fund;
"First aid to cultural heritage in Ukraine, II stage, Kharkiv and Kharkiv region", which is supported by the Cultural Emergency Response initiative and the Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative.
Detailed documentation results are available to individuals and institutions involved in the restoration of monuments and have a justified professional need to use them. For a wider circle, the survey results of the expeditions are available on the www.heritage.in.ua platform.
